Beta Gamma Sigma HKBU Chapter holds the 9th Induction Ceremony
17 Apr, 2019
Prof. Ed Snape, Dean of HKBU School of Business, welcomed guests by highlighting the School of Business’s commitment to creating a better business environment through responsible business engagement, and to equipping students with the requisite skills for a successful business career. “Being one of the 590+ BGS chapters around the globe, HKBU School of Business is proud to provide our students with such a valuable opportunity to connect with top business graduates and business leaders worldwide.”
Mr. Philip Tsai Wing-chung, BBS, JP, Chairman of Deloitte China, was awarded the Chapter Honouree for his significant contribution to fostering the professional services sector and tertiary education in Hong Kong. A chartered and certified public accountant, Mr. Tsai has a strong reputation in the local accounting profession. He has more than 35 years of experience in planning and managing audits for Hong Kong-based operations of multinational groups, as well as local and overseas listed clients in a wide range of industries. He is a Past President of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, where he dedicated his efforts to the mutual recognition agreements with overseas professional accountancy bodies, which created numerous opportunities for Hong Kong accountants to expand their professional career to international markets.
Sharing the experience gained from his professional career, Mr. Tsai believes the key to success is “to have a clear understanding of yourself. Realising your own strengths allows you to know how you can contribute to an organisation and the community. All businesses are ‘people businesses’. Make an impact that matters – gaining trust from your target audience by letting them know you are there to help them —and you are halfway there.”
An alumnus of HKBU School of Business and an External Advisor of the School’s Department of Accountancy and Law, Mr. Tsai is also known as a business figure with an extensive portfolio of public and community service appointments from government organisations to charities, and as a “people leader” who commands the respect of his fellows. “Being inclusive and innovative is critical to excel anywhere nowadays. This fosters a healthy company culture and helps retain diverse talents to drive performance and excellence – doing well by doing good.”
Dr. Frederick Yim, Chapter Advisor of BGS HKBU Chapter and Associate Professor of Department of Marketing, emphasised the conviction shared by Mr. Tsai and the HKBU School of Business – to be committed to creating a better business environment through responsible business engagement. “Mr. Tsai has been a role model in responsible business engagement and innovations, while our School is dedicated to inspiring business practice, creating value for stakeholders, and enhancing social and economic growth and development through quality business education and research in specific strategic areas including business ethics and corporate sustainability.”
